How do you say you want a support role in an interview?

So, interviewers will commonly ask what role are you searching for. This is easy when the job is awesome and you want the challenge/money/prestige and your goals line up with the job description and career path, but gets harder with support roles that most people use as a stepping stone and want to get out of.

The job is for entry level risk management and you're asked "what kind of job are you looking for and why?", what should you say?

You can always make it about the company. You want to work THERE, and not 'some other place'. I know people that have taken MO/BO positions at certain companies vs FO at other companies because that's where the wanted to work.

Maybe you are passionate about risk management? I don't know how to help you on that one.....

I've been told by a number of recruiters that this is a big mistake. Haven't actually tried to do it myself, but it makes sense that you shouldn't try to tell your would-be boss that you're using him as a stepping stone.

Recruiters are morons who don't give a fuck about you, and the sooner you learn that, the better off you will be. I don't know how to spell this out for you any further, as you completely missed the point: You want to work for THIS company, and are grateful to learn from such an experienced professional such as "......" whoever it is you're talking to.

The simple fact is that you don't have any bargaining chips and have to resort to flattery. C'mon boy, time to kiss some ass, pucker up. If you're not retarded, you'll be able to network over to FO.

NOW does it make sense?

^ What he said. Talk about how much you want to learn and how starting at that company will be a great start to your career.

Just run and don't look back.
