How do you stay positive at work?

How do you stay positive at work when you're tired, disengaged and unmotivated?

In my early performance reviews, everyone commented that I had a great attitude, but I feel the resentment building, despite reminding myself that I'm getting paid a lot and I'm lucky to have a job that opens doors.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how to stay positive and enthusiastic at work? I've firmly decided not to pursue a career in PE or investment banking, but I want to be more engaged at work for my own benefit as well as that of my colleagues. It's harder than I thought it would be though.

Happiness is all relative. Someone on WSO (really wish I remembered who) once said that happiness=reality-expectations. In other words, your happiness is directly influenced by how much reality exceeds your expectations. If it's the hours keeping you down, just keep in mind that there are millions of people who work just as many, if not more, hours and get paid less than $50,000 per year. That does not mean that you are not entitled to complain, but it should put things in perspective. Good luck.

I like this Alan Watts clip, a lot ... take a listen

"Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way"

Whenever I'm feeling deflated at work, I look down at the Gucci loafers hugging my feet and remind myself that I could be elsewhere right now sporting some cheap-as-shit square-toes. That always cheers me up

dipset1011Example......a kid that went to a community college and went straight into IBD.

haha. Dipset, if I told you I knew someone who did that, I really doubt it would cheer you up

LOL your right........but seriously anyone...anyone..Beuller?? anyone??? there has to be a story of a CC kid making it to an interview or a SA position. Or whats the most extreme outlier that you guys have come across?

Is a, success in banking, story the only thing that will cheer you up? Geez, there must be some stupid Lifetime movie you can go watch on TV, like "I Left my Heart in Georgia" staring Alan Thicke and Betty White (totally just made that up, don't waste your time looking it up). Recipe for a Lifetime movie = sappy title + washed up actors.

I digress, if it's really a feel good story you want though, go walk an energy floor. People from schools I've never even heard of all over the place from BO ops to FO trading.
