Landing Analyst Job Straight From Undergrad Without IB Experience
I was wanting some input from you guys. I am a senior with a finance major coming from a non target school who will be graduating this upcoming winter. I have a 3.9 cumulative gpa and a 4.0 major gpa. As for experience I have worked as a data analyst intern at a fortune 50 company for a summer. I also will be working this upcoming summer at a fortune 20 company as a finance intern (will probably be placed in FP&A). I have good leadership experience on my resume from holding positons in clubs in school. I want to break into IB in Atlanta or Charlotte as a full time analyst upon graduation. What do you guys believe my chances of accomplishing this would be considering the fact that I have no IB experience? Any advice to help me with this journey over the next 9 months will greatly be appreciated.
Hi CohenComeback2018, whoops, looks like nobody chimed in here.... maybe one of these discussions below is relevant:

How easy is to land a job as an analyst out of college? How easy is it to move up? (Originally Posted: 07/28/2017)
Obviously if you went to Wharton, you'd have a higher chance of someone who went to India Polytechnical Institute, but I mean in general. When I'm out of a target school (Wharton, Ivies), or near-target schools (NYU, Northeastern), how long should it take me to find a job? BB? MM? Will a lesser known bank be a lot easier at which to get employed? I know that it will rely on networking like hell, and even more so if I don't come from a target school, but how long should I expect unemployment to last?
Next, how hard is it to move up? I've heard that the path to VP is essentially guaranteed if you follow the ibanking path, and that only the best VPs becomes Directors/MDs. Is this true?
My main focus is how hard it will be to find a job. What should I do now to make it easier on myself in the future? I'm a Soph to be Junior in HS, by the way. Thanks for reading and responding.
Graduate highschool and get into a semi-target or target. It is easy if you get SA positions as much as possible in your college Summers. It's not easy if you are from target, just easier. You will be competing against classmates who have a harder degree and high scores.
Analysts that get hired out of undergrad... (Originally Posted: 07/16/2007)
At hedgefunds such as Bridewater, DE Shaw, and Citadel, do entry-level analysts do the same kind of work as at a BB? Also, are there analyst positions that are similar to S&T positions at BBs?
Hedge fund traders aren't trading flow like a BB S&T analyst. If you had a prop offer...maybe.
so an analyst trader in a HF would be doing the equivalent of prop trading at a BB? not bad!
HFs are too diverse in their org structure to make a blanket statement. There are many HFs who do nothing like what the prop desks at banks do. For example, here are two analyst level position at the same firm with completely different responsibilities:

http://www.ellington.com/employment-associate.html
The former might resemble a position at a prop desk. The latter resembles a position in research at a bank. For DE Shaw, Citadel etc it would depend on what division you are in. Both have websites which list the various businesses they are in which should give you a good idea.
also at many funds (Bridgewater for one) traders just execute the orders analysts give them so they have zero decision making responsibility
I don't understand, then what are they paid to do?
Execute the trade as cheaply as possible, and keep on top of the markets.
