How screwed are international students now?
To WSOer's working in investment banks on the west coast,
Have your policies towards internationals changed in the recent light of things? The TN Visa is under scrutiny, but the H1B visa (and H1B1/E3 visa) has not changed.
I'm an international recruiting for the SA 2019 cycle, and just wanted to ask whats going on internally and whether banks are shying away from internationals. The consensus is still that most BB's will still sponsor if you are good enough, but just wanted to see if this is still the case.
If only you are exceptional, ‘good enough’ ain’t enough
Interesting, thanks!
There's a difference between international students in the U.S. and internationals (Canadians for example). For the former, general consensus is that firms that sponsored for H1B still do, but are inclined to hire STEM OPTs who have 4 shots at the lottery vs 2. If you're able to get an H1B1 or E3, you have to push that point to HR as they are less educated about those options.
Fewer U.S. offices are hiring from Canadian targets like Western Ivey and Queens Commerce because of TN scrutiny. I don't think students from other countries have generally been hired out of undergrad but could be wrong.
Hey, thanks for the great info! Specifically with the E3, what’s the best way to push that and educate HR about it?
Interested in knowing this as well
Does H1B1 equate to having indefinite right to work in the States? Honestly the H1B1 process is much more streamlined than H1B.
Have some friends with H1B1 who work at places that do not sponsor internationals. Do you know anyone who got rejected for H1B1 filing?
.
Gonna give this a final bump!
....
Does EB like PJT still sponsor international students (not Canadian)?
Most EBs do (including PJT), but some do not — Guggenheim, for example.
