How long does a Background check take?

My BB made me submit the application online. I assume its sourced through a 3rd party. So how long until this whole thing is done? I start work in about 1 month and 2 weeks.
But I think they mail relocation bonuses about a month before work starts.

How Long Do Background Checks Take?

Depending on the complexity of your check, for example, if you lived and worked abroad, it can take anywhere from two to six weeks to complete your background check. Keep in mind they are done by private firms and not Human Resources so they most likely won’t know the answer any sooner than you.

User @Feinstein explains:

Usually, these background checks aren't done by HR. They are contracted out to a firm like Kroll or First Advantage. If they haven't contacted you yet, let sleeping dogs lie. Everyone's background has complexities -- you'll only get flagged if it's egregiously off (like you claimed you were CEO of a firm instead of an SA), and in any case, the background check agency will ask you for an explanation before they return the results to HR.

Mine took 6 weeks with 1 job (granted, I do have a lot of international experience which could be a little hard to track down), and with a different job, it took 4 days.

I may not be on the Jedi Council, but I sure am great with the Force. See my WSO blog posts

When you apply, there is an option to be notified by email when it's done. Another way is to call them and check on the status of your check. Or, just wait for your staffer/HR to bring the news.

I really wish I could relax... ! I spoke with compliance today and they told me they have to run an international background check because I was a resident abroad. Estimate Time: other 2 weeks!!!!

2+2= 1 Month!!!!

6 weeks have past from when I have interviewed! Looks like they are going to hit the 2month mark soon!

It used to be more or less open ended. You'd only hear back if something came up in the check. I'm not sure if they have changed to now give you a thumbs up. I suspect they don't because they always reserve the right to revisit your application if new information emerges in the future.

It sounds like you've got nothing to worry about so assume you are in the clear.
