How many of you in NYC are back at work?
I'm curious how many people are back at work and do you know how many people are returning to work now?
I have several calls scheduled and didn't bother contacting people on M - W but figured to reschedule. I was supposed to go to NYC but had to reschedule due to Sandy. I don't want to sound like a douche emailing and calling people asking how they are doing before scheduled calls.
Edit: I do realize if people are at work, they can't really respond to this but do any of you know if a lot of people returned yet?
Almost everyone is back at work in Manhattan. Some parts of downtown are still a mess, but for the most part it's safe to assume people are back in business.
This is quite false. Most are not back in business. My tower still has no power except for like 5 floors being run by a generator.
You must be at Deutsche Bank. But you are the minority.
Shashank? Is that you?
Back...a few guys are stuck in Jersey and LI and are working at our backup trading floors but it's slowly filling up here.
My office is still without power.
Even offices in midtown are half empty etc, because people are stuck. But now CT commuters can make it, biggest issue is those in NJ. So if firm has a lot of Jersey folks, they are having difficulty/
My friend over in NYC who is in Market Risk at a major bank will probably return on Monday. They still have some issues with their office building at the moment.
I'm enjoying the simple elegance of ipad by candlelight.
Why the fuck do people throw monkey shit for everything they see? My office is open, my friend's offices are open, pretty much everyone I know working in midtown and even parts of downtown is at work. Excuse me if I'm not 100% right.
There needs to be a monkey forgiveness program on this site.
Back to work in the Mid-town area. A lot of firms who are downtown have relocated to emergency sites.
wonder when the MTA is gonna start working again
Strange that you mention that. Was it working before the hurricane?
our office building in downtown is not gonna be operational for couple more weeks. Everyone is at alternative sites or work from home. Our building was very close to the water.
The problem right now is that many of the buildings near water have their basements flooded. They would need to pump the sea water out of there first. Only then can they begin to assess the extent of damages done there seeing that basements are usually where the electric panels are stored. If there are any damages to the panels then they would have to replace them. So even if Con Ed had restored power supply to the area power still wont be back on because of the specific flooding related issue that each building faces.
This can easily take a few weeks. It is a good time to go on vacations.
I work in Midtown and returned on Wednesday. About 50% of my office is working from home though, since they live in CT or Jersey. I have two friends staying with me who live and work downtown who haven't gone back because their buildings are closed.
for the large banks and PE shops, those not already back in the office are expected to be working from home. Essentially business as usual.
People whose offices are north of 42nd have been back to work since Wednesday for the most part, even so, our internet was down for longer and our phone number is still down. We appreciated our foreign partners emailing us to send their wishes and check in so I don't see anything wrong that type of approach. Just realize that a lot of people are living in hotels, lost beach houses, or had family in the area with serious losses, etc. Our coinvestors trying to push through documentation on Wednesday showed poor judgment IMO
