How much does it matter which bank you end up at?

So I'm currently recruiting for IB roles, and I was wondering: how much does it matter which bank you actually end up at? There seems to be a really big focus on BB/EB here, but can't you lateral if you really needed to?

I'm just curious because I'm wondering if I should take an offer from a bank that's not considered "prestigious" here or instead keep recruiting?

Here's my thoughts: stay where you are if you can get what you want.

If you're pretty damn sure you can't get what you want from where you are, lateral.

Try your hardest from where you are. Do everything you really can. Network like a champ.

Ask yourself: Are people from my current company going to where I want to go? Do the people I trust to discuss idea this with think this is possible.

Talk to those around you and figure out your situation as best as you can. Once you have a good sense of that, the answer of what to do should be relatively clear.

What if you start at a no-name but reputable boutique?
