HOW TO BLOW $10K (the prestigious way)
Basically title. I am an international student from, uhhhh Bangladesh. lol. I recently signed a full-time offer and received a lump-sum signing bonus of 10k.
I want to pick up some fancy American hobbies like golf or Formula 1 so I can better fit in amongst my banking peers (a lot of whom are from fancy backgrounds I presume). What is YOUR most prestigious hobby?
F1 is not a common American hobby. Although f1 is objectively better, we prefer NASCAR for some reason, and that is probably not common among bankers. And I don't think 10k will be enough to have driving as a continuous hobby, if that is what you mean.

Considering you're going to get ~5K after taxes, I'd adjust your expectations lol. When I got my signing, I took my friends out for a dinner which I paid for in NYC along with tableside bottle service which was like 1.5K total. Like your signing actually doesn't amount to that much so make sure you use it on shit you need like your apt or furnishing your apt etc.
Also as a die-hard F1 fan, unless you're planning on blowing your whole signing, you likely can't go to most races within that budget of 5K. Personally, going to Spa or Monza is an extremely cash-intensive affair.
Your visions of balling out will be more realistic when you get your first actual bonus on the job.
