How to get internship prior to grad school?
I am currently in the Navy, a Nuclear Mechanic, with about 3 months left. My wife being a physician has raised my career aspirations as I believe I should come at least close to her career wise, this has led to my decision to separate and move forward. While active duty (enlisted) I got a BS with a 3.77 gpa from a regionally accredited online school. I do believe this will hurt me, but am unsure. My goal is to work in venture capital, private equity, or investment banking. We are moving to Dallas, and I will be trying to get into SMU's MBA program. My questions:
1. What kind of GMAT will be necessary to get into the school since I have an online UG degree, and 8+ years military experience?
2. If unable to get in right away, how do I get an internship or entry level position at the jobs I mentioned above (not even concerned about the pay at all, just really want a foot in the door)
I plan to take the gmat in 2 weeks, and judging by the practice CATs taken so far I believe I will get around a 620.
Any help would be great! Thank you.
I'm currently trying to do the same thing. Basically all you can hope for is pulling something out of your personal network and cold-calling like holy hell. I've had a few leads, but each day that passes it gets darker.
Good luck -- there really are no pre-mba internships that I know of, other than a few programs focused on minority recruiting (but most of those are like "mini" internships since the one's I've heard of are only like 4 weeks long).
If you are scoring 620 of your practice CATs, your real GMAT score could really be anywhere. I would suggest spending another two months really studying. If you have the work ethic, you should be able to score a 700+. The Manhattan GMAT books are excellent and only cost $120 or so.
