How to get into the Nittany Lion Fund as a freshmen

This one goes out to all of you NLF alumni and current members out there; how do I get in as a freshmen?

I'm currently a high school senior and am wondering what I can do to prepare/should keep in mind for when I start my first semester in the Fall.

I'd appreciate it if you went over everything from studying for interviews to GPA and EC's.

How much is your high school background considered?

Have you tried to find them via linkedin or through alums on the fund website? Perhaps you can schedule calls with them and get their advice - maybe they'll even like your enthusiasm and put in a good word for you. I think that targeted direct approach with be more fruitful than a post that people may or may not read.

Did you ever make it and if so can you answer your old question? Thanks

Hey Disney, I'm currently going into Penn state, I'm really wondering about how to enter the Nittany Lion fund as well. What should I do to stand out? As one would expect, that is as straightforward as one can get. I have a decent pre - non financial resume but who has a financial resume at this point anyways.

All the best!
Nathan.

Sophomore that has a 3.9 gpa, went to every single meeting, mock interviewed seven times with fund managers, basically studied for it like an extra class during the semester, did the case study for second rounds, and did not get in. In the final (second) interview round, I left feeling confident with maybe 2-3 questions I could have answered better but then was rejected.
It is extremely difficult to get in. I believe it is very critical to know someone in the fund or else you need to be a girl or minority/have some significant story. Important note: they need to keep a quota for how many girls they have in the fund (girls get exclusive women-only breakout meetings and events). So almost all girls who get past the first round will get in. Nevertheless, you can still get in as a guy but just keep in mind that you're fighting an uphill battle
