How to Secure the Offer at a Super-day
I am a long time lurker on the site and owe most of my knowledge to WSO. I go to a non-target, I joined the finance clubs and took leadership positions, I have a freshman and sophomore year internship in finance, and I networked my way into interviews. After my interviews at a MM bank, I have a super-day on Monday. All of my work has led to this and I feel nervous and excited, but what I need to know is how do I secure the offer? where is the battle won? Understanding and elaborating on technicals? How do I stand out without being overbearing?
Will take any advice on standing out and securing the offer, the last thread on this topic was from 2008 so I am reviving the subject.
A huge thank you to the WSO community for getting me here so far.... just have to seal the deal!
Good job on all your hard work and reaching this level! As cliche as it sounds, try to relax and just be yourself. Come off as personable and as someone they would want to work with. Sound confident with your technicals, and if you can't answer that is okay- they will prompt you and just show you're interested in learning from them
This is a silly one, but considering that its almost certainly a digital super day, be mindful of your camera presence - make camera eye contact (don't be looking at yourself too much), be mindful of posture, speak up (don't be too quiet - but don't yell). Those little things portray confidence which can be helpful.
Good luck!
Just got the offer. Thank You!!!
Congrats!! Just curious, what do you think helped you get the offer? Was it your technical knowledge or more so how you fit in with the group?
First off, I nailed the technicals - go in there with confidence which comes from days and hours of practice. I do think the key is selling the reason you want to work at the firm and making a connection with the interviewer. With timelines so crazy, the bank wants to know you won't go elsewhere and are committed to signing the offer.
Other than that don't lie. It might seem simple, but its ok to not have a 5-year plan. You don't need to know you want to be a banker when you are 8. I told them I started college as an entrepreneurship major and worked at start ups before deciding I wanted a more technical degree.
Be confident, truthful, and honest about where you want to work!
Hope this helps!
Definitely. Reassuring on many points, especially not needing to know I wanted to be a banker super early on. Appreciate the tips and again, congrats!!
Congrats
