How to think about value of carry
Some insight from senior guys much appreciated. I’ll be receiving carry equating to ~$1-1.5m capital at work (if fund 2xs, big if, pre-tax). It seems to me like a hell of a lot of money for a mid 20s dude with a few years work experience and actually somewhat a life changing or strongly goal accelerating amount of cash.
Can someone please explain how much this is actually realistically worth in cash for me over the next 5 or 10 years? The carry mostly vests straight line over 4 years with a long tail of some increments
Some of the questions I’m trying to understand are:
1) How many funds 2x in the UMM/MF space in recent years?
2) How much of this carry is expected to be redeployed into a new raise and hence I can’t actually use? (Vs. Using a loan facility to fund)
3) How many people reach the 4 year mark?
Many thanks
