I try to avoid this as much as possible. Last it happened to me I got zero work done the entire day, took a long ass lunch and left at 5pm.

During one of my internships abroad, I went to sleep around 6am on a Thursday morning after a night of heavy drinking and some solid foreign kush. The thought was, "just a quick power nap so that I don't die. I'll leave at 5, worst case." I woke up at 1PM.

Edit: agreed with scandal. Water and an advil are awesome. Throw some greasy food like eggs in and you're golden. Sometimes sugary stuff, like lemonade, works really well.

in it 2 win it

  1. Just hope your morning workload is light & at least make it to lunch hour (hopefully no prayers in front of the porcelain goddess). 2. Eat a hearty or starchy lunch (chicken pot pie or Chinese works for me). 3. Wing it thru the afternoon...

I'm not really asking for tips. Just wanted to start a thread about how you guys dick around when avoiding actual work.

Breakfast sandwich. Lots of water. Advil. Brush my teeth or use mouthwash a few times during the morning. Eye drops (and usually wear my glasses, which means everyone in the office knows I'm hungover, but whatever).

Then I pop in the headphones and try to look busy while I troll WSO, too lazy to post anything or read threads of any substance.

Starting to know this feel. My boss is out of the office for the whole week, and the others who work here don't really give a shit what myself and the other intern do since we don't work for them, so our schedule for the week is pretty light.

I went to a friends birthday party last night and got a bit more fucked up than I thought I'd get. Throw in some kush, liquor and some fun with a controlled substance. I fell asleep at 430 but still managed to drag myself into the office by 730 this morning. Thankfully all I have to do today is get some info from investor relations and listen in on a few earnings calls.

I can't wait for lunch...

Which is why you drink it at home.

lol good thing about my species is that we can vent out all of the acohol in our system b4 we get too tipsy, so reduces hangovers - also we r good with water absorption so any hangover is -50% in length - get at us water pokemon lulz

I just avoid it at all costs now. When I turned 25 weekday ragers went bye bye. I remember my first year out of school I went out for halloween in the west village, came home, showered changed and went out to the office. Didn't even think twice about it.

If I am hung over for one reason or another I drink plenty of water, bacon egg and cheese on a roll for bfast, multi v and something with electrolytes. Avoid red bulls and coffee / stimulants etc. Your day is going to be ass regardless, just keep your head low and act normal. You'll be fine.

I echo some of the above posters. When I was a new grad I had absolutely zero problems raging on a weeknight, then rolling in the next day on an hour or two of sleep. Now, I would be totally unable to do anything. Bad hangovers are now an all day affair. Fuck you Father Time.

you could try drinking through it. you'll need exponentially more and more booze to keep the head ache away but it works. never tried it at work though...

I used to do this every day in Israel. It works. Some might say it's the only option when faced with 105 degree weather.

But right now, it's noon and I'm feeling pretty good. Gonna go get some sandwiches. Gonna get some little gatorades and shit. Might get a donut too. Who the fuck knows in this crazy world.

Some key take aways and lessons learned from this thread: 1. Bacon, egg and cheese or any other greasey bfast sandwich 2. Hydration - Gatorade (Glacier Freeze is a personal favorite), Vitamin Water, Coconut Water 3. Caffeine 4. Controlled substances (Adderal really helps to focus while hungover) 5. Stop being a bitch and suck it up or stay in

In addition to everything that's been said, throw in a dip on your morning commute then grab coffee as soon as you're in the office.

Listen, here's the thing. If you can't spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker.

This is why I love England, where coming into work hungover is considered a badge of honour and everyone gives you a free pass, albeit with the right to laugh at you and make you feel miserable. No wonder our economy is in the shit.

Take a shower, drink lots of water, borderline OD on painkillers, and ingest a ton of greasy, hearty food (bacon, eggs, hash browns for breakfast / burrito for lunch),

Or alternatively, crap the booze out:

Depending on where you work I would try to hit the gym asap and sit in the sauna. I always feel better after sweating it out.

Same here but I prefer the steam room. Take a cool shower, get some eye drops, and no one will know. Sounds strange, but get some Airborne and pop them every couple of hours, there's some type of herbal ingredient that boosts your immune system and also lifts your mood. Take a multivitamin, and drink tea instead of coffee, it's easier on your body and the theanine is a synergent to caffiene that multiplies the effect without making you jittery.

I used to bartend double shifts, go out boozing afterwards and close the bar across the street, hit up a house party and/or do an after hours, sometimes be up all night and just get a shower in the morning, show up for work, repeat six/seven days a week. Now, three or four drinks and I have a hangover the next day, all day, and it's horrible. I drink MAX one day a week at this point and it's really just sipping something while I socialize. I even had to quit smoking, my body just went on strike. It's really weird. Once you get past about 25, you just don't recover as quick.

On the plus side, when you do give up drinking, getting up at 6AM to go to the gym suddenly goes from impossible to refreshing, to the extent that it actually feels normal. Strangely enough, upper management at my firm are morning gym folks, so that's the upside I guess. Also, it turns out there's all sorts of stuff you can do on the weekend instead of recover from Friday night.

Still though, I'd trade my left nut to be 21 again.

Lots of greasy food, vitamins and water. Usually good to go by mid afternoon.

Coming to work isn't really frowned upon where I work. Hell most of our teambuilding/bonus celebrations are midweek so everyone would have to haul themselves into the office and entertain the MDs. Just try not to go too hard on a Monday, fucks up your whole week.

If you REALLY got fucked up, get a bloody mary, spiking your blood alcohol a bit (just a bit) will do wonders. Personally, I never touch alcohol before 5PM, but this does work.

I've come to the conclusion that being quite buzzed at work is better than being hungover at work.

I think I'm gonna start morning drinking more.

If I'm not too drunk I try to drink 2 glasses of water before I go to bed so I can hydrate some while I sleep and speed up the detox process. I wake up and immediately have 2 glasses of water with 2 Advil. Then i smoke a bowl. Follow up with a hot shower where I use an exfoliator. I drink a glacier freeze Gatorade during the shower. For breakfast I have 3 eggs and a glass of orange juice. 2 mode advil when i arrive at work then i proceed to smash coffee all morning until lunch where I try to get general tsos or chipotle. Call me crazy, but it works every time.

@"thebrofessor" Yea I've kinda learned to focus while hungover. I've found that drinking a red bull right when I wake up neutralizes the lack of focus aspect of my hangovers, which is strange I guess. But i have no plans to keep this trend going, I guess I'm still young and dumb.

@"vdubben" The internship is a local credit analyst internship, just something to throw on the resume, so it's not related to IB really at all. I've spoken with people who have previously done credit analyst internships who work in banking and they say its not related at all. I appreciate the concern though, and I know that my experience here isn't indicative whatsoever of an experience in banking.

"My name's Ralph Cox, and I'm from where ever's not gonna get me hit"

none. working hungover is miserable (to me at least). But happens here and there after a long weekend.

If your internship is making you hit the bottle, i'd take that as a sign.. It's only a internship and you haven't started your career yet and this is the result? Please stay safe, op

When I was younger I'd go out drinking all the time but during the week I just didn't drink so much that I was hungover, or at least most of the time with the occasional Friday being the exception (or if there was an office event or closing dinner where no one was doing anything useful the next day anyway). My rule was once drinking affected my work I wasn't going to do it (not quit drinking, just not do it to the point where it affected my work). I also didn't really get hangovers until I was in my 30's so that helped a lot. Once I started getting hangovers in my 30's even after not drinking much I just limited myself to 2 or 3 drinks during the week. I also have a few friends that get horrible hangovers even when they didn't drink much so they weren't able to have more than a couple of drinks without it affecting their work.

There's also a big difference between going out or hanging out with friends and "hitting the bottle." Are you going home every night and sitting by yourself in front of the tv downing a bottle of scotch? That's a problem. Going out with your friends when you're 21 and drinking socially is fine as long as you're not the guy falling over drunk every time you go out.

I appreciate the post. That's the revelation I've come to realize, once my functionality falls to a certain level after drinking i'm going to cut it down a lot, but as of late it's been tolerable I guess.

In response to the second part, "hitting the bottle" may have been embellishing my actions a bit, and I would never sit at home and drink by myself. If i did that, I certainly wouldn't be joking about it on an online forum, as that is a serious problem. It's really just when I go out with friends, and seeing as I'm living in a college town with a lot of my buddies, the opportunities to go out every night are almost always present.

"My name's Ralph Cox, and I'm from where ever's not gonna get me hit"

Have gone into work hungover a fair amount of times and it definitely has an affect on work quality and focus. It is also miserable to sit through more than once or twice a month, so I would definitely slow down when you start your full time gig as you don't want to be that guy hungover all the time. Friday and Saturday on the weekend should be more than enough to get the fun out of your system.
