I'm a college senior- I have a great job offer, but it's not what I want to be doing. Should I take it or keep looking?

Hi all!

I am a college senior graduating in June 2016. I've had an internship at a tech company for one year now, and they've offered me a full-time position when I graduate. It's a great entry level job, with good pay and benefits. However, I'm bored with the company now, and I would rather try out something finance related. I do think that working there full-time would be more interesting than what I do as an intern, but I am ready for something different.

On the other hand, I've been applying to a lot of different jobs, and while I've had some interviews, I've had a lot of rejection as well. It makes me wonder how hard it is to find a job as a recent college graduate with minimal experience.

Should I take the job that is a sure thing, or challenge myself to keep looking for a different job? I need to make my decision by next Friday.

Thank you! Confused college student

Whats your major and are you at a target, semi- or non-target? If you're somewhat business/finance/econ related and (semi)target. 100% find something in finance. Worst case you grind it out in another area and get to your ideal group later.

If unrelated and/or non-target you'd have to be willing to risk a solid career for something unknown. A safer option would be to do your tech stuff, kill your GMAT, do an MBA at a good school and then transition.

If I were you I'd go for it, just because I know I'd be happier failing at attempting my goal than to take the safe road and never know.

I am a finance major at a semi-target (I think?) school. And thank you so much- that's great advice! I am also learning towards not taking the job and just going for it (I just needed the validation to know I'm not making a dumb choice). I think the fear of the unknown future will push me out of my comfort zone. I would rather have tried than always wonder "what if".
