Internship Start Date Question
Hi all,
I go to a school that runs on the quarter system so my classes end on June 11th (pretty late). I found out I was recently dinged from a summer internship even though my interviewer really liked me because they were looking for someone to start sooner. I have an interview with another place this week and I found out the desired start date for an intern there is June 1st. Is there anything I can say to downplay the fact that I would be starting two weeks later than any other candidate, or is there nothing I can do about it? How can I make my interviewer consider that "negative" less?
Thanks.
I dont know why that is a problem. I was at a BB last summer and there were people starting late because of the quarter system...
how do they go about training in this scenario? If, say, training is the first week of June but you start on the second week what do they do?
The first company just using the date as an excuse to ding you. Unless it's some place super bureaucratic (unlikely to be found in high finance since these firms usually go after their top candidates pretty hard), the start date won't be an issue, especially since it's only 2 weeks.
Thanks for the responses.
I forgot to add, the employer asked me when I would be able to start specifically by email and I answered him honestly, so I am worried that it is something he might think is important.
Should I bring it up during the interview and ask if it is an issue? or just ignore it
I'm on quarter system as well, never told HR that I needed an extra two weeks. Instead, opted to take my finals 2 weeks early...
Just a thought. This is for BB S&T SA.
