Investment banking is banking for investments

To do justice to the name investment banking, I would think we may want to discuss whether investment banking as we understand it here on this forum is actually banking for investments. Banking I think is generally used as a place to store money and/or get money when needed. Investment banking therefore can be a place to store investments for safe keeping (i.e. someone sells a stock to their broker-dealer and the broker-dealer holds onto it and/or finds a safe place to put it) and/or if someone needs an investment in their company they go to the bank and the bank gives them an investment (I.e. they give the company an investment and/or they find someone who can invest in the company)
