Is it normal for partners to get equity if they're with the company for a long time?
This is a 5 year old firm with 10 employees currently. If you go from Analyst to Partner in 10-15 years, do you think it'd be crazy to ask for equity? Currently I'm taking slightly under market analyst pay at a MFO with a very high growth rate and it's hard to see friends at 80-160k+ IB salaries all the time. The only reason it's worth saying at a small high margin firm is for that equity imo. Any thoughts or advice? CEO loves me.
Unlikely they give you equity no matter how loyal and long-serving you may be. Profit sharing, maybe.
Equity at a smallish MFO is kind of questionable anyway, if MFO'ing is all it does. The value of the firm is tied to relationships with a few families. If those relationships go away, valuation = zero.
Hey thanks for the reply. If i hypothetically inherited 100-200k liquid, do you think I could try to buy-in equity or something like that to show I'm in it for the long run?
