Is this typical? Weird interview situation

I mentioned to a VP at JPM NY that I had an interest in working in Asia. He sends out an email (just forwarded my email expressing my interest) to the recruiter of JPM Asia. Six weeks later, I have interviews for both HK and Singapore. I didn't even apply to Sg, but they want to interview me anyway. Further, Sg didn't even set up an interview with me, instead a VP just decided to cold-call me for the interview. Lo and behold, he calls me at the exact same time that I had my first round with JPM HK so we didn't connect (I got the missed call, but had no idea who it was from - my curiosity definitely peaked). He later sends me an email explaining that he was the one who called me and would like to set up an interview. Is this a common thing, where HK applicants are automatically considered for Sg as well?

Singapore is definitely a much better place to live in than Hong Kong, but I suspect the IB scene in SG isn't as vibrant as it is in HK?

I believe the same holds true for JPM; HK and SG are distinct, and, as such, they conduct recruiting separately. I'm still curious how my application got to SG, unless the Asia recruiter just spammed it across offices... and why would she be so kind to me? :]

Computerblue, no I am not.
