J&J vaccine paused by CDC/FDA
Due to 6 rare blood cases by women out of 2.8M administered doses. There has to be more to it to halt it over 6 rare reactions?
As someone who received his first dose of Pfizer, I won’t lie, the unknown long term effects concern me but rare reactions are common amongst any vaccine. I’m sure you can a number of cases of stuff people had from the flu vaccine.
So fucking stupid - and going to cause much more deaths than it may prevent
Stupid to halt a vaccine that killed someone, and they're not sure why? Certainly caution and figuring out what the problem is would be a good thing...
I guess it depends on your personal ethics etc etc. But there is zero chance that this decision doesn't cause a net loss of life
I was not worried about side effects until I read this topic, haha
Amazes me that people here will drink 15 alcoholic drinks in one night every weekend into their 30s but then refuse a vaccine because “we don’t know the long-term consequences”
We don't know the long-term effects of a novel vaccine. We do know the long-term effects of weekend binge drinking.
Your argument is that definitive, proven, known, very negative long-term consequences are preferable to potential negative long-term impacts of which zero proof exists that such impact exists? Gonna call that a bad argument
Risk of blood clots is high with birth control and especially so with long flights but you see people crushing them like candy and traveling all of the time also.
if the vaccine gave me a 15 beer buzz i'd be much more inclined to take it
Why did this topic get unbumped immediately? It is an important and timely topic and deserves to stay on top.
Wow, I actually agree with you...
I'm surprised there isn't more vaccine hesitancy at this point between this and telling people they still shouldn't eat indoors, hang out with people, etc. Whoever feels that the CDC is doing a good job of messaging and overall performance is lost. They won't get ahead of this the right way either to quell concerns.
Same thing happened in Germany and Canada already, so I figured it was only a matter of time before it started happening in the US too. Although I don't know what if any relation J&J has to AstraZeneca. Maybe they were manufactured in a similar way or this is pure coincidence, either way the fact that all these problems seem to specifically affect non-senior citizens doesn't bode well for getting younger people to take this stuff, despite the FDA's emergency use authorization. The longitudinal studies just aren't there. If you're old already you don't have to care about the long-term effects, just prioritize surviving COVID, but if you're younger this is a whole different ball game in my opinion.
Germany halts use of AstraZeneca vaccine for people aged under 60 - Announcement follows similar decision by Canada amid inquiries into blood clot cases
Yep - both based off adenovirus tech (source). While it's fairly new tech, it's been used for Ebola without major issues that I'm aware of (source on Ebola use). So not sure that it's the tech that's the issue so much as maybe an unexpected drug interaction or similar.
Cool source, good read thanks for sharing. Ebola vaccines I would imagine haven't gone through as much testing as the Covid ones for what it's worth. The virus is scary but not exactly super easy to spread, and few people want to invest billions into a vaccine that's only going to help some dirt poor country in Africa. It could be unexpected drug interactions or maybe the effected people had some underlying condition that no one thought would have a conflict. Hopefully we find out more over the next few months.
Because the MSM does not encourage critical thinking, it encourages emotional reacting and obeying authority.
Motherfuckers will literally buy dozens of juul pods even though we don't know the long-term consequences of juuling, but are too paranoid to take the vaccine. Lol.
Because with nicotine and alcohol you go out on your own terms.
Just because 6 women got blood clots after the vaccine doesn’t necessarily mean they were caused by the vaccine does it?
Maybe the women were already going to get a blood clot and it just happened then?
A lot of the younger/middle aged people that died from Covid "without pre-existing conditions" were also overweight/obese but the media refuses to classify obesity as a problem in our society. I am pro-vaccine and pro-mask but the reporting on Covid has completely dropped the ball here on personal responsibility.
People in this country don't really put their health as a priority and expect modern medicine to come in the fashion of a pill or vaccine that solves all their problems (makes them happy and healthy). We won't prevent problems by exercising or making good nutritional choices. Maybe that will work out for Covid but we're still left with a society that would rather wear a CPAP mask to sleep than stop eating Twinkies and lose weight / stop snoring.
at present, only 27% of the country are not overweight/obese
over 35% of the country has received at least one vaccine
therefore, people are willing to do something that could prevent them from dying...but only if it's free, easy, and the government tells you to do it
My city put obesity as a condition to be in one of the early priority groups for the vaccine. Imagine the government saying “hey you, you’re fat enough to get in the 1b group.” This is why I’m never voting for my tax dollars to go to “free” healthcare.
Master Fauci just loves ignoring the data...all decisions based on emotion is the Democrats way of running a country
Shhhhh....they will use this against you once they start rounding up people to send to ‘summer camp’ where you will be re-educated. Anthony Fauci is one of the most brilliant men to ever live and has saved us from certain doom. He is also socially conscious as he continues to double mask after being fully immunized.
To anyone reading: I fully believe in the science and have a shrine of Anthony Fauci in my room. I will wear a mask forever, I do not need re-educating.
When do the camps happen? Need to figure out my next apartment lease term, don't want to overspend. Thanks.
It's one of the most bizarre of all crazy decisions I've seen the last year. The decision to pull the J&J--even for a few weeks--will almost certainly cause net deaths. J&J is close to 100% effective against death and something like 85% effective against serious health issues. Any serious issue from blood clots will almost certainly be far offset by serious long-term illnesses. The optics of pulling the vaccine will almost certainly reduce the net number of people who get vaccinated as it is terrible PR for vaccines IN GENERAL. It was probably the worst policy decision I've heard of in recent memory.
Also close to 100% against hospitalization, which is what I think most people are concerned about
No, nothing is being hidden, the FDA is just wildly risk-averse, does no cost-benefit analysis, and as with all public agencies is far, far more scared of risks of commission rather than omission.
I've generally been extremely frustrated with how the media / everyone is talking about the vaccine rollout. The U.S. has absolutely CRUSHED it in terms of vaccinations, with over 3.3mm people a day getting vaccinated. That is incredible! The sheer logistics and supply chain effort involved in that process is mind-boggling, yet we're leaps and bounds ahead of other countries.
We should be celebrating this monumental success, not picking apart the tiniest flaws. I agree that we should understand more of what is happening with J&J but overall I'm frustrated that the media isn't doing a better job of highlighting the successes too. I guess fear sells and what not, but still can't help but feel that a major disservice is being done by not highlighting how far we've come and giving people something to feel good about.
I've been on this site too long because I can't tell if you're being serious or trolling
Maybe I shouldn't have used the exclamation point...
I'm being serious. As awful as the past year has been, finally something is going right and we're missing an opportunity to celebrate that.
Agreed 100%. The media is radically dedicated to selling panic porn. It's always been that way, but their behavior the last year--and especially in its coverage of the vaccine--has been so egregious that it crosses over into the malicious. The American media clearly has nothing but contempt for the American public.
Yeah, agreed. In the early days of the pandemic when we really didn't know much it was understandable, but now they have an obligation to be more realistic with it and have just completely fallen flat. I try to stay far away from most news other than the WSJ / CNBC these days (even those sometimes are sub-par).
The media are high-ranking officers in the Jihad against the American public...they're done an incredible job over the last year
Do you really believe the vaccination numbers? Just did a quick google search and saw that we have 192M doses given of those, 73M are fully vaccinated. I live in a major city in the US and have spoken to quite a few friends / colleagues about whether or not they have been vaccinated.... I cannot for the life of me believe that almost 2/3 of people have been given at least one dose.
Maybe it's where you live. Most people I know have been vaccinated with at least one dose and my area is by no means a national leader. I got the vaccine yesterday and the place was beyond packed with people. Hundreds and hundreds of people.
Everyone except me in my immediate friends and family have gotten at least one dose. Was hoping for one and done traditional J&J but looks like that plan might be out the window.
Because then they would have to give credit to Trumps operation warp speed which the MSM will never do. What most people don’t know is that Trump put a senior from the army to handle and plan out logistics. The same guys getting food to troops on the battlefield were involved here.
And dem leaders like Fauci, De Blasio, Newsom, Lightfoot etc would have to give up control
I'm going to provide a counterpoint to the conversation.
Before I start, I am NOT an anti-vaxxer having had (over the last three years): 3 flu shots, 1 pneumonia shot, 1 meningitis shot, 1 h1b shot, chemo and a variety of others. I also have an autoimmune disease. I have been told by multiple doctors NOT to take the jab because NO studies have been done (we have always been EXCLUDED)
Source: (https://www.businessinsider.com/how-long-it-took-to-develop-other-vacci…)
First, some data.
My point is this: People are running to get an UNPROVEN jab.
I can go on for hours.
My point? Understand WHAT this jab is an make an informed and deeply personal decision about what to do.
Again, I am NOT anti-vax nor anti-drug, only anti-untested rushed to market, potentially unknown DNA modifying jabs.
The real issue: Folks like me will be banned from certain activities while the rest of you will be required to ""show your papers" to get on an airline flight, sporting event, get a job, etc.
Be careful out there.
The mRNA vaccines began testing in early 2020. You're spreading myth about it being rushed out.
"It is not even a vaccine. It "lessens" the symptoms, but you still get "sick". It supercharges your immune system."
A traditional vaccine exposes you to the virus and gets you "sick", so what are you on about? The piece of virus (which cant reproduce) that is coded in the mRNA shot and created by your own body causes your cells to automatically create an immunse system reaction to the spiky part of the coronavirus. Hence why your immune system flares up the first time. You never get infected though.
