Job that allows to see the world
Hi everyone. I am having trouble getting excited about my career path post graduation. I recently received a full-time offer from an investment bank I was interning at this summer, but realized that while I would be making a great living salary wise, I felt like I was following a set path that goes IB -> PE -> MBA -> PE, when in reality that doesn't really interest me that much.
One of my passions has always been traveling and specifically visiting emerging economies. I am fascinated by the development and growth of countries around the world.
While I am interested in finance, and IB seems like a great place to gain lots of transferrable skills I can help but wonder if there are any jobs out there would allow me to combine my interest in finance and travel (hopefully, while also having pay that is somewhat comparable to IB even though I am sure that is unlikely).

Isn't consulting essentially a career that involves a lot of travel? Might be what you're looking for.
Specifically McKinsey. OW is mostly NYC (finance, they don't f/w visas) and Bain is a local model (e.g., try to keep you in the region). This is just an example.
Anecdotally speaking, I know an F500 internal auditor that’s sent to different countries. Pre-COVID, he was in Germany for a week or two. He’s not getting paid IB money for sure, but he’s doing good for himself and he does travel quite a bit. I’m not sure this applies to the whole profession tho.

Agree. Impact investing; DFIs; IFC; investors with significant EM portfolios (there are many, but you need to do research to find them. Many opps are one-off). Working for a large company (e.g., auto manufacturer, large industrial company, large ag company like Bayer, Cargill or Bunge) is another great option. Many of these companies have numerous large global offices and allow for internal international transfers for solid performers, or have attractive management rotational programs that put you in different cities for say, 6 months stints over the 2-3Y program.
To be clear, you will not make IB type money doing most of these things (hell, you wont even make IB type money as a junior PE person in any city). However, you will also not work IB type hours, and you will get to take vacation and travel, which IB doesn't generally allow for. For example, I have a friend working for one of the large corporates mentioned above. He works 35h / week, does work he enjoys and is passionate about, and has a sweet life. He is about to leave the US for a 1Y rotation in a major Asian city, all paid for by his employer (including housing!).
Personally I have worked overseas for 8 of the last ten years (I am American). I have also worked in NYC IB at a top BB, and I currently work for a MF PE outside of the US. I want to assure you that it is doable if you want to do it. It does involve taking risk, however. You have to be comfortable LEAVING your home country / home city and setting up shop elsewhere with an UNCLEAR PATH back. I think I have taken pretty significant levels of risk with my career (twice I have moved sight unseen to a new country for a new job, and once I have moved countries with the same employer). For me, it has paid off, because I have seen the world. I have NOT made as much money as I would have made if I had stayed in a major US city and worked in IB (or even a less demanding job). Compensation outside the US tends to be lower, for one thing (plus, double taxes as a US citizen...). So that is a personal choice that each person will have to make for him or herself. I can answer specific questions if you have them.
Who ever has already said consulting, I agree. There are definitely great opportunities to travel the world, even at relatively junior levels.
I know people who work in BTB tech sales that are traveling internationally constantly to see clients. Totally different work than you may be looking for though.
