LA Banking -> New York Buyside

Current student at an east coast target originally from California. I'm definitely interested in returning home to LA for IB, however given the majority of my university friends/network will be in NYC after graduation, it would be nice to leave that as a future option in case being back home/the LA finance scene isn't what I think it will be.

Therefore, I was wondering how hard it would be/what the process is like for IB analysts in LA top groups to exit to NYC buyside (mostly curious about PE/HF's)? Obviously the time change and distance make it tough, but wondering if there is additional factors, and if it is possible/there are precedents for it happening? I know Moelis LA has a Centerbridge NYC pipeline, so curious more so for other top LA groups such as CS, GS, HL RX, and Barclays.

Thanks!

Does anyone have any more commentary on the groups beyond Moelis? I knew Moelis obviously had some killer placements, but given how CS/Barclays/HL RX do really well in west coast recruiting (TPG, Silver Lake, KKR Menlo, Oaktree, Ares, LGP, etc.), curious if this translates to NYC at all
