Lateraling to a different geographic

Hi all,

Decided that I will start preparing to lateral soon (think after summer, because I have a vacation planned lol).

Ideally I would like to move to a bigger (balance sheet) investment bank. At the same time, I would love to make the move to London (or the USA, if there are firms that sponsor H1B's). I wanted to see if there is anyone that made the move to a different geographic area and how they approached this.
I do have some contacts in IBD in London so that's a plus, I just wanted to know how people make interviews work in different places. You can only fake a couple of excuses to skip a morning (and that is very tough already time-wise), and you cannot always take vacation days when firms have time to interview.

Did anyone succesfully do this, and how?
