License to Trade with a Hedge Fund?

I know that sell-side trading requires a license, which is why summer BB S&T interns can't do any trading. Is a similar license required to be a trader at a Hedge Fund? If you're a college student, can you actually trade at a Hedge Fund over the summer as an intern?

It's not just because of a license they won't let you trade. It's also because you're an intern...

Because when you're in a room full of smart people, smart suddenly doesn't matter—interesting is what matters.

I figured as much. Is it possible in theory?

for a hedge fund, in theory, since there is no license requirement..yes
