Living with 5 guys as the only girl; summer analyst housing; Your opinion? ***Updated***

So I have the option of backing out of my NYU double room (just losing about 150$ out of deposit), and getting a single room in a converted 3 bedroom apartment (2 rooms, double beds in open space) and one bathroom.

I know the guys from a professional org, they will be fellow interns from other banks and they seem cool. I've only really talked to 2 of them during a week long event and the rest just briefly. I feel like for the same amount of money I'll have more space/privacy but I've never lived with a guy(s) before and I have some hesitations? Do you think it might be awkward (for them) even though they suggested it?

I'm never going to be at home anyway working so many hours, and they're smart/professional guys so i'm not worried about anything. I think I'll fit in well, even though i'll be the odd one out physically (I'm petite, they're division athletes). A friend suggested sticking with university housing because it wont fall through last minute, security etc. but i'm strongly considering this option.

Anything I should think about/consider before I have to jump the gun?

Thanks :)

UPDATE: I appreciated all the advice, crass humor, snarky remarks (and one marriage proposal - you know who you are). I'm 90% not going through with it and I will be keeping my sad NYU cell for now. Figured i'm going to have a hard enough time adjusting to work, I don't want any surprises at home. If there are any WSO events in the summer, I look forward to meeting some of you assholes.

Are you hot? If you are expect one of them to make a move on you at some point. Depending on how you respond to that it could either make or break your living experience. Truth.

Eh i'm not a supermodel. I strongly resemble Selena Gomez (body, dark hair, baby face) if that helps lol?

Nah, I think most have GF's and I can brush things off pretty easily. There are hundreds of girls at the bars doubt they'd make a move on the one living with them :P

If you think it won't be a problem then I don't see a reason not to go for it. I couldn't imagine living in a dorm in NY. I never even lived in a dorm at my UG.

Although you've suggested a completely hypothetical situation, what a guy wants and what she has to give are pretty different things. Who gives a shit if one of them goes through a break up, OP would be stupid to avoid the person and not comfort them just on that basis..

Anyway, OP, the only thing you really need to consider is your tolerance for cleanliness (or dirtiness) as blokes as a rule of thumb are messier although some of us are pretty well house trained. Quality of sleep is a thing too.. nothing worse then living with someone with a chilled job in comparison to yours who rocks up at 4am and wakes everyone up, although I don't think you'll have the problem + earplugs usually sort that.

Finally, don't shit where you eat, don't sleep with housemates as it always gets messy.

From my experiences going back to college and beyond girls tend to be a lot messier than guys. Not only do they throw their cloth all over the place ( in the bed, on the couch, kitchen counter and all over the floor) but their bathroom habits are much nastier, with toiler paper and hair everywhere, especially in the shower/bathtub where their hair invariably clog up the drain. And God forbid when they start having their period, then you have blood stains everywhere...definitely not a pretty sight.

They definitely won't think it's awkward. Get a read on what their at-home personality it like - guys tend to be messier. If they check all the other boxes go for it! Just try to establish yourself as "one of the guys" early, otherwise they will all try to bang you. Relentlessly.

Any girl that is willing to share one bathroom with five guys is very brave

This absolutely...

Lol thanks I guess. At least they won't use my bath products/lotions like My college roomates!

I dunno. These are the days of manscaping and metrosexuals...

90-100% 1 of them on a drunk night hits on you? Someone want to take that I have paypal...ha

This.

You have a vagina. You will be there. If you find one of them attractive there's a chance that you'll both get drunk one night and sex. Don't underestimate the power of convenient sex.

I don't know how you operate OP, but you should probably learn how to take flash showers as well. Like 5 min tops. Throw on whatever the most popular track from Frozen is and use it as a timer.

Also, you're all going to be there for your internships first and foremost. But you may find your future roommates reconsidering their girlfriend situations when it clicks in May that they're going to be in NYC for the entire summer.

It would be hilarious if you documented this experience for WSO.

Much easier to hook up with the drunk girl that goes home with you because she lives there. Just saying.

I'll get in on that action, 5 SB's on 2/5 roommates

@CorpFinanceGuy and @"woodywoodford" You are underestimating my level of control and overestimating the amount of free time either party will have.

If you are doing banking for the summer then no, it won't be a big deal. You'll get back late most nights and go straight to sleep, and you won't be using the apartment for anything besides a bed and a bathroom (aka not hanging out much there). Weekends could be a little bit weird, depends how well you get along with them I guess, and even then you'll be in the office a fair amount.

Thanks for the sensible input. +1 SB

I'm not sure what's up with all the Don Draper 60s-era comments on here, but I think you'll be perfectly safe. If you're doing IB, you're smart enough to know that guys have sex drives. Just be aware that it'll likely be worse than usual given the level of stress and frustration from lack of sex they will accumulate over the course of 10 weeks.

I think you will be able to handle this situation, and you may be surprised at the level of professionalism men and women can achieve in the 21st century. As noted, the shower situation is the worst problem you will face. I have female roommates, and have not been inappropriate with them because a) I'm not a fool and b) I've checked my calendar, and know it isn't 1967.

Living in an NYU dorm is truly awful. I mean, it's just downright demoralizing.

What's with the snark @GoldenCinderblock, the stupid joke was nice between the shitty advice and bets on my perceived promiscuity.

I would expect at least half of them to make a move on you before the summer ends. Also, most guys live like slobs and you could become pretty grossed out with living conditions. I am a guy and I would say don't do it. Also, if I were your dad and found out you were living with 5 guys....

All things I would think of and say to sister or daughter and I'm only 25

This fucking thread is the reason the majority of women don't go into finance. It is fucking embarrassing. You people are supposed to be smart.

It's alright @TheDiscountRate :) the vast majority of men I've encountered in the real finance world have been great.

@"BEAST MODE TRADER". Yeah I thought about having to explain that to my parents...scary

If a woman is sensitive enough that a thread on WSO offends her, than she just might be.

IMO, females tend to be a lot cleaner. Just look at hand washing stats.

+1 for your "update" para. Made me giggle.

i was in the similar situation when i moved to another country for my undergrad studies

but i was one guy with four girls (yes, all good)

People who look down on others who don't drink are WAYYYYYYYYY more lame than those people who don't drink. I seriously can't believe this is still an issue in 2014.

There are cool people who drink, and there are cool people who don't. Grow the fuck up and let people be.

P.S. I have met some incredibly boring people who drink often. It doesn't matter whether you drink or not if your personality is garbage. Alcohol won't solve that.

"Look, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way. In twenty years, if you're still livin' here, comin' over to my house to watch the Patriots games, still workin' construction, I'll fuckin' kill you. That's not a threat, that's a fact.

Holy fuck; this thread is one of the worst displays of sexual angst and frustration I've ever seen.

People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for freedom of thought which they seldom use.

agreed. this thread is beyond stupid. whoever started it is dumb or a bad troll. let's stop bumping it plz.

I'm not dumb or a troll, but I agree it should have died 30 posts ago when I gave my farewell.

50% of the comments had nothing to do with the original question, not my fault WSO goes off on shitty tangents
