Looking for Advice: Undergrad who took to long to figure things out
I am a current junior who is slated to work in IB this summer at a solid firm, but I've come to the realization that this isn't what I'd like to do come time to leave college.
For some background, I'm an undergrad math major at what would be considered a semi-target for IB recruiting. I've focused mostly in pure math (algebra), but had my interest drift more to quant finance after I took a really cool class on systemic investing, and had a less than fun class in grad algebra. After that, I started taking some finance and econ classes and found it a lot more interesting.
I THINK I would like to work at some form of a quant fund post grad. I don't think I have the systems knowledge for a market maker/HFT, but I do think I would enjoy mid/low frequency alpha research. Unfortunately, while my school has sent tons of kids to almost all IB shops, there has not been a single undergrad (that I could find) to go directly into quant research at my school.
Additionally, while my CS and statistics knowledge is ok, I'd love to get it into a much better place.
Does anyone have any advice on: 1. Good books/tools to build a knowledge base around predictive models for mid/low frequency investing? 2. Quant specific networking tips to try and land interviews at these shops?
A few shops that really caught my eye are AQR (love the academic focus, not so much the returns), Acadian, DE Shaw, Jane Street, 2sigma, Tower, Old Mission, and Jump. (HRT seems like they have a super cool culture, but I don't think I have the systems background to make it there)
Any insights would be appreciated
Undercover meme, pure crickets, that's where I come in. Any of these useful?
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
No idea why this didn't get any comments. Bump.
Lol i figured it out
Continue to post accurate quant stuff so my fellow analysts stop getting confused with SWEs and quants lol.
Lmao exactly - have much to say about this but it still stuns me how people see any distinction between a SWE/Dev and a revenue quant.
Do you go to Notre Dame?
