M&A Analyst for Law Firm

I'm curious, would an M&A analyst position at a national, reputed law firm help me break into traditional IB? Currently I'm working at an F500 lender as a finc. reporting analyst and would like to know if the M&A position would help step me in the right direction. It would be a position that is approached primarily from the legal side of the business- ie drafting M&A docs, legal and business research- but it would give me significant exposure to Upper MGMT and IB clients.

Assuming I network effectively, would this be an effective platform to land a (non-legal preferrably) IB analyst/associate position?

To be honest, it might not be completely relevant to the type of M&A activity an IB analyst would do. Nevertheless, it does give you deal exposure, which some teams might find useful. I personally would consider working for this Law firm more relevant than what you're currently doing, but that's just me.

very useful. you might need to do an mba still to transfer in as an assoc, but many have said that lawyers make the best bankers. just look online at bios of bankers, and loads of them once worked for a law firm, esp. in their corp law ma depts.... f
