Main Indicators That You're Burnt Out and its Not Worth it
Currently a 1st yr BB analyst and am currently going through similar situations to many others on here right now. Am literally dreading it week by week and tbh day by day. Actively recruiting right now for other jobs, but in the back of my head still think "what if I'm just being weak and taking the easy way out". When do you know you're officially burnt out and it is no longer worth it?
For reference, I have literally 24/7 anxiety, lost motivation to do pretty much all of my hobbies, lost 7-10 pounds since the new year, and have lost motivation to work for 90% of the seniors in my group. And I am doing all that I can to eat healthy, workout, see loved ones, but nothing seems to be helping this emptiness I am just constantly feeling.
When you log-off you don't even have the energy to jerk off.
When you have cancelled on friends/dates for work-related stuff more than 5x in a row
.
After working several back to back 100+ hour weeks, I have to admit that I forgot jerking off was even a thing until I saw this comment. I think I'm officially burnt out.
Health comes first. Use a week of vacation and tell them you won’t have access to your email. Will give you time to rethink and look at options / recruit more actively.
-Consuming 1000mg+ caffeine per day since mid-April, including at least 2 coffees between midnight and 3am every night
-100-140 hours since April, with no summer slowdown
-Scared when the music on headphones pause because it means an incoming call or email
-Constant verbal abuse from both seniors and mid-level asking if you're retarded and telling you that you this is an embarrassment
-Constantly in no-win situations with several urgent fire drills at the same time; no matter which work you prioritize, either way your career will be negatively impacted
-Drive from college to get the job and be good at your job only replaced by fear and hate for the industry
-Afraid of choosing to sleep at 4am because there is always work that is overdue, despite the fact that productivity and overall work product would improve. Consistently staying awake all night, getting minimal work done just so it shows up on teams
-Inbound angry call at 2 am, inbound angry call at 8 am, including on weekends
-Look homeless, tooth pain from not brushing, in a daze when not heavily caffeinated at any point during the day and unable to stay awake
-Being good at your job is punished by getting more work until breaking point is reached. And it doesn't end there.
-General sense of hopelessness that this is your life until you leave the industry
Believe it or not i don't work at Moelis
Are you at another EB?
Moelis isn’t even that bad. Lateral ASAP and probably go BB
was it like this as well when you were Anal1 or has it been greatly excerbated by wfh?
Holy fuck dude I'm sorry. I know my words won't help your situation but just know there is a stranger on the internet who supports you
I'm so sorry...
Man WSO is so depressing nowadays
You should probably quit and lateral to a more normal bank or different industry
Dude just quit. You'll be fine. Fuck that lifestyle. Someone will take a chance on you in a different industry where you can actually live instead of becoming a shell of who you once were.
Woah. This is quite a handful
My advice when you are feeling the way you are and trying to find a new role is to be careful you don’t jump too early into something else. Being objective is hard so don’t rush into something thinking this will solve my issues. Try to test any new roles you are thinking of with people you trust...like WSO (jk).
Take some time off if you can to recharge a bit.
