Major Choice for UCLA Freshman (Economics vs Public Affairs)

Hello Everyone,
I just joined UCLA as a freshman under their Biz Econ program. I knew coming into it that UCLA was not a target, and if best a semi target for SoCal. What I did not fully comprehend is truly the number of people that choose to purse Biz/Math/ Regular Econ each year. Opportunities are available via our career center for internships but the sheer number of people applying peg my odds very very low. I personally have a big interest in Distressed investing, and I want to eventually break into distressed PE after M&A/Rx IB, and I just want to be as prepared as possible. UCLA just started a Public Affairs Major that would be in the school of Public Affairs rather than the College (which is what all economics are in). The focus of public affairs is more governmental, but it does have a heavy economic focus and also seems like something that's a lot more interesting and practical than Economics. I wanted some advice on this and was wondering if this was something worth pursuing? It would help differentiate me but would employers peg Public Affairs at the same level as Business Economics ? It is early but getting advice would enable me to take more Public Affairs pre-reqs so I can declare it.
Thanks for all the help !!
