Privateer Investments or Holdings (?) is a PE fund in Seattle doing all cannabis. I don't think there's a formal primer but if you read some of their news articles you can learn something. Pretty interesting investment thesis actually.

I've looked into them. I think it's pretty smart what they're doing. By investing in ancillary businesses, they're insulated from fluctuations in the commodity prices.
 

I know of a few private funds. The best prospectus I've seen was technically a real estate fund that would buy property, assist with permitting, do the buildouts (electrical, plumbing, HVAC -- all very specific for grow ops), then charge rent for the specialized property, with the intention of a grower-buyout of the renovated building.

The RE firm doesn't own the plants, light bulbs or dirt, but owns just about everything else.

That sounds pretty interesting. It seems that way, they could bypass the residency requirements many states have.
