Either you bounce to a cushier job at a small shop and work your way into a partnership or you keep climbing the ladder at a different stuffy corporate giant (since you'll almost certainly get bounced after your associate stint).
Which is why, unless the latter is your goal, I don't really understand the appeal of working at giant PE firms in real estate.
