Michigan (Ross) vs Georgetown McDonough MBA
I'm considering applying to one of these schools this round. Is this even debatable, or is Ross >>>>Georgetown? I'm a non traditional candidate looking to switch careers and stay in the Northeast after graduation.
Is the Ross brand stronger than Georgetown? Being that Ross is in Michigan and is a public school, I have some concerns about the program quality going down since the state is in bad shape. Georgetown's program seems to be on the way up due to substantial new investments.
Thanks for your input.
For undergrad, Georgetown is the clear winner. For an MBA, Michigan wins by a mile.
It seems like G-Town's in the up and coming. Both were recently on a list of "New Ivies" by HuffPo I believe. Agree with the post above for grad, not sure about undergrad as I always thought Ross was a top 3/5 b-school overall.
UG - Gtown MBA - Ross
How receptive are Ross undergrads to the MBA students, and likewise for Gtown? I understand Georgetown undergrad is way better so they may look down on the MBA students.
Can't speak for Georgetown but Michigan is a big sloppy party, and MBAs are best advised to bring protection. A big school with a great football team and a frat culture, you can't really ask for much more. Midwest girls can be cute and they love to party.
"I ate apple pie and ice cream—it was getting better as I got deeper into Iowa, the pie bigger, the ice cream richer. There were the most beautiful bevies of girls everywhere I looked in Des Moines that afternoon—they were coming home from high school—but I had no time for thoughts like that…So I rushed past the pretty girls, and the prettiest girls in the world live in Des Moines."
Who cares? As a former Michigan undergrad myself, Ross MBAs crush it. Recruiting wise, it does way better than Gtown.
GO BLUE!
Have several friends who went to Ross MBA and it is awesome, go there.
Georgetown grad is known more for its public policy/international relations.
I would say that you should probably go to Georgetown. It's a generally higher ranked school with a good work-life balance. The girls and sports are pretty good. Depends on whether you pay in-state tuition for Ross though...
Oh my bad, I didn't read MBA. I meant for undergrad Georgetown was a better choice. I think for MBA Ross might have a slight edge, but only if you want to work in Chicago or the Midwest. Good luck!
Ross, I had friends with strong W/E/Good grades who had difficulty getting jobs one guy I knew wanted to be in IB, landed an unrelated albeit good jobs (in house strategy at an F500), but it took him almost a year.
With Stephen Ross donating $100 million to the business school, Ross might be the better option for the future.
I would go with Ross. Georgetown isnt even top 20. It's a very overrated college.
EDIT: Didn't realize this was an old thread someone resurrected.
Is this entire thread a joke? Go to Ross. At the MBA level this isn't even close.
Ross is a solid top 14 program and places well into tech, MC, and banking...Georgetown McDonough has a 50% admit rate, low post-MBA salary (relative to Ross), and hasn't EVER cracked the Top 20.
Folks, just a reminder Undergraduate program prestige has EXTREMELY limited if any impact on MBA programs.
