MIT MFin - Good choice for MBB/Tier 2?
Hi WSO - Regular user but I created this throwaway coz I didn't want people to recognize me.
Ok so I've been recruiting for consulting positions and everything seems to be a dead end. Top 3 undergrad b-school, low gpa (3.1) above average work experience and EC's.
I tried networking but most of my contacts were not willing to stick their necks out for me for obvious reasons. I'm also international so I don't think boutiques would be able to sponsor. I've been thinking of contingencies in case nothing works out in the next month.
My question is: would an MIT MFin position me well for recruiting next year? Program starts in July 2014. Would I get access to entry-level positions in their OCR? On their site, it says most people who don't do banking go into consulting. Does anyone have/know someone with experience in this?
I am more than welcome to any other suggestions or advice. Thank you very much in advance and I really really appreciate it!
sorry to be honest but mit mfin has an avg gpa of 3.8

Thanks for the link. I'm confident of my ability to get a 700+ on the GMAT and hoping that would improve my chances..
You're welcome. Somewhere under their admissions page they mention that a bad GPA can be offset to a certain extent by a good GMAT - kill it and hope for the best
MIT is going to be tough with a 3.1. I'd look at other MSF programs as back ups if that is the direction you want to go.
A close friend of mine got recruited by a Tier 2. His GPA was 3.2 but he had a 780 GMAT. So, yea, your low GPA won't hold you back as much as you think if you have proved yourself post college.
Hey, almost all rich guys are college drop outs.
Haha thanks for the boost. Screwed myself over with the whole GPA thing.
So is the GMAT/Mfin my only way out of this?
I'd suggest looking at the Duke MMS/UVA Masters in Commerce. They are more broad based and may be a good fit for your interests.
What was your major? I'd crush the GMAT and see what happens. You went to a T3 UG business school which might help. Probably help more if that school was Wharton haha.
