Morgan Stanley IBD/GCM post-AC (London).

Hey WSO!

Been following the forums for a while but now set up a profile as I have a genuine query concerning my recruitment.

I had an Assessment Centre at Morgan Stanley's London office for the IBD/GCM SA position. However, after 4 weeks of waiting, I am yet to hear back from them.

Do you think it is a good idea to call them and ask? I have other interviews coming up , and also, it seems unusual that they have been making me wait for so long. Is this a bad sign?

I know a few people have already been rejected approximately four days after the AC. Then again there around 40 people on the day (AC for the whole of EMEA)

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Andy

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll wait a bit more though, I think. MS did lay-off 1,600 people earlier and the winter holidays just passed so the HR maybe has other things on their mind? Any other advice will be highly appreciated. I don't really think I have a good enough reason to call seeing that I don't have another offer. But to finally find out the result would be great (and given that I have some interviews coming up, listening to some feedback would be really helpful)

Hey mgott,

Is your easier in London? You will have a group exercise, presentation (not very technical, but the more you know about M&A the easier it is for you to discuss the transaction) and one competency interview and one technical (the technical will depend primarily on your degree and past experience - even if asked simple questions try to bring in a little CorpFin knowledge into it). Then again I can't offer you positive advice as I don't know what's my outcome :)

Good luck!

Is it just me or does MS always take long to get back to you? It's ridiculous. Any Ex-MS guys on here that know what the hell is going on with these guys?

I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing. See my Blog & AMA

Hey LBObuyout,

Anyone who interviewed for MS in London knows that's not true. They do have assessment sheets for some exercises, but, most importantly, at MS they sit down after your interview and discuss you altogether (which is not the case at every IB). Seeing as two of my interviewers are based abroad - I don't expect it to be that fast a process. Plus Xmas holidays just passed - many people were away. 40 people at the AC could also be a factor. Goldman Sachs also returned to a guy I know 4 weeks after his final set of interviews.

Anyway, this might appear that I'm clinging on a glimmer of hope ; this is not the case. Objectively speaking my chances are - well not 1-2% , slightly higher than that - but indeed very very low (2.58%? lol). But you're right in assuming that 1-2 days is the convention for the HR getting back to you.

Of course, I'm not the expert (and you might have had an AC or an interview at MS London) hence creating this topic to get some further insight.

alright dude, good luck! I hope it works out for you.

No, i never applied to MS hence never had the AC. I am based in the London office in the M&A of some other top 5 BB, and had my AC last year, from which I heard back 1 day later. My friend who works in MS now in M&A too heard back from his AC last year after 3 or 4 days, so I was basing my remarks upon that.

anyway, hope it works out!

Hi andy90, I know this was a year ago but I just did my MS AC in IBD/GCM last month and I have been waiting for nearly 4 weeks (same situation as yours). Do you mind me asking what was the outcome of your application last year and did they say anything about why it took them so long to get back to you? I am really worried. Would appreciate any information.

I had my AC at Morgan Stanley London a few weeks ago as well, I got a call within two days. However, that was for an analyst position. An undergrad at my Uni, who was there on the same day for an internship, told me that apparently they are waiting until January to make the calls for the summer internships. Hope that helps
