Moving to NYC Tips to Be Efficient
Moving to nyc while working. What are tips to get stuff settled (or as much as possible) beforehand or on day of move? How to get wifi set up in apartment, furniture delivered that day. Any other tips on moving/getting furniture into apartment as efficiently and easily as possible? Will be driving what is not being bought in that day. Thanks

Hey, I'm moving there next month too. Where are you moving from? Within the states?
You got movers?
On internet, I have moved several times in the city and Verizon has always been great. You can set appointments up in advance so you can be sure they'll hook you up day of the move.
If you're buying a decent amount of new furniture and moving into a doorman building, they may let you ship your furniture to arrive a few days before you get there. Mine did, and they even brought it all up to the apartment for me, but I'm not sure if that's the norm. WiFi is usually set up through the building if a doorman building, so you can schedule it to be installed on the day you arrive.
The most seamless move I've ever had is when I had my movers bring everything and set it up prior to me even getting there (was away at the time). I told my doorman to let them up and in the apartment. Did the same with the cable guy, it was awesome.
There are some risks associated, but I mostly just had my furniture and the apartment was empty by the time they got there.
Moved in the midst of a buyside m&a deal so had to be crazy efficient. A couple tips / lessons i learned :
-You’ll need to schedule WiFi set up beforehand, and you’ll be given a window of when the man will come. Don’t miss him. I went out & missed it & he didn’t come back for a few days so was using a hotspot all that time.
-Ask the front desk if your building has a handyman. If you do it’ll be super easy to have him set up things, and maybe think about the things you need done during move in day (bed frame, desk, light\lamps)
-Speaking of groceries, bring at least a couple reusable bags or you’ll have to pay for paper which frequently break. Sounds like you’ll be running errands so definitely something to consider
Thanks! Is fios best for tv and wifi in the city?
I am not trolling you when I give some tips.
Finally, and this is MOST important. Never gather too much stuff that doesn't fit into 2 large duffel bags and be out of the apartment in 15 minutes notice.
Not kidding. You do not need a $2000 TV or whatever. 15 minutes. 2 Duffel Bags. The rest you can buy used and leave it there for roommate or doorman.
Sounds like there is a story behind the 2 duffel bags…
uhhh hire movers?
Someone on here once said to get a cashier's check with first/last rent/security deposit and some kind of proof of employment, but it looks like you're past that stage if you already have an apt.
Yeah you want to have the ability to give a cashier's check for 3-4x rent if needed. Apartments close quickly and sometimes first to close gets it, so when you find the right place you have to act fast and close.
Also, the Container Store is a good place to visit for storage solutions. I used their Elfa shelving previously and it worked out well.
