MSF placement for S&T?
Hey guys,
After two years of experience in a BB TA role, I'm looking to pursue a MSF with hopes of becoming a successful macro trader. I've done alot of research for different programs and one thing I've noticed is that there's a relatively low placement for trading roles, even at some of the better programs like Vanderbilt, Villanova, Boston College, UVA, etc. (excluding programs like Columbia/Princeton/MIT from that list considering I don't have enough of a math background to get in). From all the stats it looks like there's much higher placement in other types of jobs. For example, the most recent employment report from Vanderbilt shows 27% of placements in IB, 16% on Investments & Research, 16% in consulting, and the rest in non-S&T roles.
I understand that IB/AM/ER are the most wanted coming out of an MSF program, but why aren't there more graduates getting placed in S&T? Is it because jobs are more scarce or because people would rather pursue difference careers? This makes me wonder if an MSF is what I should be going for, considering my passion is to become a trader.
