Mutual Fund Investment in Africa

Hey Monkeys,

Recently I have been considering the possibility of investing in Africa. Specifically I am looking at the nations in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) as well as Nigeria. There has been a growing interest in this region over the last several years but it is still difficult to find a solid fund, outside of PE, that invests directly in local companies in the region. Being a small investor, I'm still in college and only investing on average around $6000, PE is not practical for me and I don't want to turn to a passively managed fund when it comes to this area. I want funds that are managed by someone with direct contact in the region and obviously by someone who knows what they're doing. I'd appreciate any insight you all have regarding possible funds, general information on investing in Africa including both pros and cons (yes, I understand the infrastructure and political stability in many of these countries is questionable), etc.
