Need a Fancy Schmancy Intern Title
Since most of my summer study abroad plans and internship possibilities are evaporating, I proposed a fundraising proposal for national nonprofit. It looks like they are going to implement it in one or more states. The money goes to the homeless and needy, so it is pretty important. I will be helping to consult, run, and implement the program in one of the states (need to do some lobbying to make it happen). They asked me what title I would like? Any suggestions? I am interested in going into consulting. I am not interested in working for a nonprofit after college, so I do not want to pigeonhole myself. Thanks.
Hi DJ12, hope I can help. Do any of these links cover what you're looking for:
Hope that helps.
Wouldn't focus on the title as much as the actual results. But, to keep it simple and understandable, would have "analyst", "lead" in there somewhere along with "operations" or something similar.
First off, congratulations on the accomplishment. You're doing something that's good for society AND good for your resume at a time that's incredibly challenging for everyone - make sure to give yourself a pat on the back.
In terms of the title, I'd echo the thought that it's ultimately not going to matter very much, as long as it's simple and understandable. Typical fundraising-related titles I've seen in the wild tend to have terms like 'development' and 'donor relations' in them (e.g. 'Development Manager', 'Donor Relations Associate').
Something like 'program manager' or 'program lead' could also serve the twin purposes of getting the idea across in a simple fashion while highlighting consulting-related skill sets.
Agree, most of the non-profit org roles that lead fundraising operations I've seen are under "Development", hence the person managing the department is almost always called Chief Development Officer
So other ideas: Development Associate/Intern, Fundraising Operations Associate/Intern
