Networking with Senior Partners

For people who have been on the job for a few years, what is the best way to reach out to senior partners that you don't know to express interest in working with them? I feel like its a bit awkward to send a cold email to a partner I don't have experience working with but is that the norm? Staffing is not putting me on the cases that I want.

You probably have access to the engagements & clients that these senior partners are involved with. Look at them and see if anything in those projects relates to something you are doing, and ask for a couple minutes of their time to discuss. It could even be something you find interesting and doesn't relate to your specific individual responsibility,

It might be better to start this process with someone who's lower on the food chain but ultimately answers to the senior partner you want a meeting with. In my experience, asking good questions that someone doesn't have answer for will get you the response you want: "That's a good question, I don't know. You'll have to ask (senior partner) Bob."

Very unlikely a cold email straight to a senior partner will yield much success! As already mentioned you’re better to start at senior manager/director level in areas you’re interested in.

I’ve found offering to support on business development/proposals/non chargeable work in a certain industry can open doors to more senior people. Or else you can request a bit of time to discuss something an SM/Director has worked on before. This can lead to introductions with senior partners when you’ve developed a reputation for supporting a certain area/industry.
