Nomura Sales and Trading Summer Advice

Hi, 1. What exactly does summer analyst do in sales and trading positions? 2. Do any of you guys know which desk perform best at Nomura? 3. How are Nomura's return offer rate? 4. Any advice?

In both sales and trading desk interns do a lot of shadowing (make sure you ask intelligent questions and not approach people when they are busy, sometimes someone would snap at you "Not now" but don't take it personal). Apart from that you could probably be assigned some admin tasks, e.g. reporting CC and AR for sales desk. You could also be ask to give trade idea pitches (both sales and trading) or to produce a strategy/back-test/optimize/automate something if you are on a trading desk. 2. Don't know which desks are the best, but it is probably not equities as they be laying off people massively in equities S&T and research in Europe. 3. Don't have a clue. 4. Look into products your desk does before your first day on the desk, be clued up on general market movements across asset classes, be humble and strike a fine balance between approaching different people too much and irritating them and not doing it at all. And also obvious one: be on time, dress appropriately ...
