MBB Off Cycle?

Hey Everyone,

I work for WSO but this is a personal post. I am interning at a MM employee benefits consulting firm currently. I am hoping to make the jump to MBB. I graduate in December, and I am wondering what my options are. Do some firms recruit for January hires? Would it be a decent idea to look into off cycle internships that can transition to FT jobs? (Intern from Jan-May and then join FT?) I have been networking a good bit, is there anything else I can do to be more attractive of a candidate?

Side note: I was told during my mid-program performance evaluation that I was in the top 3 (of 15) and that I was very very likely to get a return offer. How would I go about telling employers about this? Can I ask for a reference from my current firm even though I am attempting to jump to MBB?

Interested in doing strategy/ financial competence. Not interested in employee benefits at all, hence why I am looking toward the future of my career and hopefully going to MBB. If I cannot make MBB, are their smaller shops that anyone knows of in financial competence/strategy? I always wanted to do IB until this summer so I have been attempting to learn as much as possible at the consulting industry as a whole.

Thanks all.
