only wearing white shirts?

maybe im over analyzing things but is there anything wrong with only wearing white shirts? granted that they are always clean/smell good and ironed. i dont really like shirts with patterns or colors, so i prefer wearing white shirts. anyone else feel the same way? i just dont want anyone to think i only have 1 or 2 shirts

just checking, i saw this guy wearing a purple-ish color shirt and he looked like a mississippi pimp, all he needed was a gold rolex and some aligator shoes to finish the look off

i also hate (almost with a passion) the gekko, i havent seen anyone dare to try it but i can sense in the near future someone will wear one

I sure hope your personality is a little more exciting than your sense of style haha

Back in the day, we used to fly a tailor in from Hong Kong twice a year and he'd set up in a nearby hotel room with all of his swatches, etc... and we'd have him make stuff for us (in Hong Kong, obviously, and then ship to us). My V.P. had him make this unbelievable purple wso/">suit once and he was so fucking proud of it. He'd wear that wso/">suit with a canary yellow shirt and some crazy tie and just think he was the shit. The shirt matched his canary yellow Porsche. True story.

Those were the days...

Flying in a tailor from HK ? That's pretty badass indeed. Can you imagine doing something like that today ?

fags have ruined style so much more than they've contributed

I wore nothing but white shirts during my SA stint. I went and bought 5 white shirts all at once. I worked in a business formal environment so I showed off my personality with my tie. Even got a couple compliments for my tie selection.

I hate SAs wearing gekko shirts or french cuffs...."You have not made it in life" Wear whatever you want when your MD..........a blue seersucker suit and pink bow tie works then too

I plan on doing ALMOST the same. Half white, half light blue. I don't have anything against patterns when done with taste, but why have to worry about coordinating tie/shirt/suit pattern in the morning when you can eliminate one of the variables?

Really like the contrast collar, but no way will I be making that move anytime in the near future

guys, unless if you're born with an acute sense of fashion and are keenly aware of your surroundings, i'd recommend you sticking with white and various shades of blue at least until you're a 3rd year analyst. it's just not worth the risk.

you show me an analyst wearing "salmon" or lilac shirts, or shirts with fancy patterns, and i'll show you an bottom-tiered analyst who's not getting laid for years.

Obviously just wearing white or blue shirts is fine but a lot of you are just ridiculous. I'm graduating at an older age, 26, and I've actually accumulated some personality and style already. I have mostly white and blue shirts, but I also have two shirts with a conservative blue on white pattern (one checkered, one striped) and a salmon shirt. The patterned shirts even have french cuffs (shudder!) but I'll just use the cloth/elastic knot cuff links that came with them.

I think they look great, so I'm going to wear them.

Is it OK to wear pale pink shirts as an SA?

that's up there with french cuffs, rolex, etc. i would play it safe and not, though i'm sure there's more than 1 person here who would say yes.

For analyst just wear blue and white. It is safe and if you are young and just starting you really should let your work speak for itself.

That being said, I wear pink shits, checkered shirts, stripped shirts, whatever. It comes down to style and personality. Some guys and do it and some guys can't. Calling someone gay or thinking they can't get laid because someone dresses with different colors is simply foolish and jealousy.

I think the article is kind of douche, but no breast pocket is a common thing. I have a suit with no belt loops and it has its pluses and minuses. I always thought the brown shoes with a navy suit was very British, guess I have been proven wrong. I like how they make traders sound like trashy brand whores haha.

It surprises me, I always had brown shoes down for blue suits in London. I generally see them as more fashionable because lets face it, when did black shoes REALLY go with blue?

Just white shirts is absolutely fine. Years ago (and I'm talking awhile ago), wasn't white shirts considered the norm for formal wear and blue shirts were actually considered casual? What some of my older relatives have told me anyway.

Yea, what's up with that? Blue suit with black shoes just does not go. I always thought it was the British who rocked the brown shoes with the blue suit.

The British saying is "no brown in town". Black lace-up shoes are what you should wear to work.

@ DDGM1112, what you say about shirts is partly true. Historically, blue shirts where for workers and white for people in the office, thus the distinction between White Collar and Blue Collar.

Breast pockets are casual. I heard of an MD who would rip your breast pocket off if he caught you with one at the office. Button ups are also casual.

This has been debated a lot, but in Europe French cuffs are standard, even accountants wear them.

Pink/blue/stripped shirts are fine if worn with the right tie and suit. Most important are the cut, collar and cuffs.

In London analysts also wear ties, and t is not frowned upon to have hermes or whatever as long as it looks good and is knotted appropriately (double Windsor is my favourite).

Finally, dressing well is not gay and white shirts are not for the grunts.

EuropeanBob:
(double Windsor is my favourite).

Double Windsors are disgusting. Nothing worse than someone with an excessively large tie-knot. The largest knot you should ever be using is a Full Windsor with a spread collar. For non-spread collars, a Half-Windsor. For heavy knit ties, a four in hand may be appropriate.

And regarding brown shoes, it's an Italian thing. You see it quite a bit in London because there's a big Italian cohort in the London offices.

Double Windsor and Full Windsor are the same thing. If it is excessively large you didn't do it right.

That's true. Previously white shirts considered the norm for formal wear and blue shirts were actually considered casual. But now a days there are plenty of designs & colors available in the market for the dress shirts/formal wear. But i think, white shirts never looses it's popularity & usability as the formal shirts. B'coz it's the only shirt having all the qualities to be in the top position. So i love & prefer the white shirts as a dress shirts. Thanks & Regards, Bred Pit Justwhiteshirts Web Store

I like white shirts, they look very professional and are easy to coordinate. But they can definitely get boring after a while. I like to mix it up for sure.

But the patterned shirts get noticed if you wear them too frequently, thus limiting the utility for the fancier shirts I own. Whereas the white can be worn every day with a diff tie and nobody notices.

I do not prefer Windsor knots; also do not really care what other ppl wear.

GoodBread:

According to the British, white shirts are for the grunts. BSDs stick to light blue and would never be seen in a white shirt.

Are sure about that? I recall that the Beatles song "Piggies" references piggies: "in their starched white shirts..."
