Point72 investment memo request

I applied for the point72 associate academy and they just emailed back asking to complete an investment pitch with a model. I'm not trying to be rude, I am just legitimately clueless, but is this something all applicants get? With limited time in the next few days and coming from a liberal arts background, I am trying to assess whether this is worth putting in a bunch of hours for.

*OP. to both above, you're totally right. That is the better way to think about this. Thank you. (I know tone isn't well conveyed over writing; I am not being sarcastic)

It's quite normal and you should expect to be asked for pitches (before and during interviews) when you apply for investment roles in general, especially in public equities.

I am trying to assess whether this is worth putting in a bunch of hours for.

That's up to you to decide. If you haven't made a stock pitch before, or don't know anything about a model, then you basically need to teach yourself all of that, plus create a decent pitch in the next few days. That's a lot to do in very little time, and with no guarantee of getting through to the next stage. I know kids in the academy, and they had many pitches worth of experience before applying- so that's what you're up against.

Another way to think of it would be-  do you want a career in public equities at any point? If yes, then you will need to learn how to pitch and model anyways, and this deadline kinda gives you a trial by fire intro to it. So view it as an early opportunity to learn as much as you can. Good luck!

Yeah, somewhat in the same position as you albeit a lot more experience (1 year L/S intern + Pres. of the school investment club). Although my schedule is packed until the deadline :/.

Can anyone give some color on their interview process, there is no way this is given to all applicants, or is it?
