Preferred candidate had already been identified
I sent my resume in blind for a role on a coverage team at a bb; but I noticed at the bottom of the posting it said:
Preferred candidate had already been identified, but that all applications would be considered
I was invited for an interview today by one of the associates but was wondering if I should even bother preparing and if it was worth the time to learn about what makes them special.
bump
Think of it this way, they swiped right on Tinder and matched with a hot girl. However, they continued swiping right and have matched with girls just as hot, or even hotter. You have the opportunity to be just as hot or even hotter than the initial girl, and can steal the spot away.
Go and take this interview seriously.
Technically this would be true if the guy wasn’t an idiot enough to say “I’ve already found my preferred mate who is super hot but let’s see where this can go shall we?”
No one wants to be second best and told so. Go to a place where you will be valued
Yeah - I guess its just a HR requirement but I'll give it my best shot and treat it like a networking opportunity.
Hmm I am guessing “preferred candidate” is probably an internal hire but they have to go through the mechanics so they can check off certain HR requirements. I think you might still have a shot, but just depends on whether you have capacity. Maybe go for it if you want some interview practice and you never know what will happen
Will do - good practice anyway and less nervous since I know it's probably a loss already.
Also quick question but is this for JPM?
Hi,
No, RBC in NYC. I'm surprised they're bold enough to mention that they have a preferred person in mind already.
I think if they invited you for an interview, they'd seriously consider you. Otherwise I'd guess they'd have just ignored your app if they were truly decided on their selected candidate.
Yeah, but I'm afraid it's more of just ticking an HR requirement than a serious consideration.
I think posting the app is the "ticking an HR requirement" in most cases, though it's possible they may be required to actually interview a certain number of people. This seems like a classic case of just hoping for the best and planning for the worst.
They're trying to mind fuck you.
This screams “I need to interview X amount of people before I give the job to my buddy” but give it a go. Treat it like interview experience
Just an update - i had the interview and they pushed me to the final round with the MD. I guess thats required too as well? To go through the entire process.
Congrats - guessing you're lateralling over since it doesn't sound like a typical first round / superday experience?
