Preparation for HF Interviews

Incoming FIG analyst at top FIG group (GS/JPM). I’m interested in going through the process with distressed and event-driven hedge funds (DK/Anchorage/SPC/KS- type firms) but have no idea how to prepare and feel that I’ll be disadvantaged against the restructuring bankers who do this all the time. I’ve read through DDA back during SA recruiting. Am I better off going for L/S equity? Can anyone with experience chime in?

Depends on how the Pm views it. For example, i don’t really care what kind of banking was done - I want to find the best combo of work ethic, curiosity and horsepower I can and it doesn’t matter if he/she was FIG or Energy or Cap markets or restructuring.

But I’m hiring someone to help me build a business long term. So I care where that person can get in the next 2-3-4 years not where they are 1-2-3 years in.
