Quant Role at a Fundamental L/S Fund?

I am at a target looking around (really early) for full-time opportunities and got some interest at a ~$3B L/S fund in a quant role.

They describe it as a role that adds to PnL as opposed to being back-office or risk-management, and that while the PMs do bottoms-up analysis, the quant team uses a top-down one to make sure portfolios are well constructed, well-hedged, etc. This is much different from a quant role at a quant fund, where you're working on making alpha-generating models.

I can't find much other info about this type of role. Does this sound like a role with a good career trajectory to becoming an investor/one worth pursuing out of college?

I wouldn't take it unless you don't have better options. Much better to be at a firm doing the firm's primary business- quant at a quant shop or fundamental work at a fundamental shop. You're not going to get much respect otherwise.

I am a junior at a target and will be interning as a portfolio analyst for a large AM (Fidelity/PIMCO/T Rowe). They do give return offers, but I know I eventually want to break into HF so just exploring options.

The fund is sector specific, tech focused, and the interviewer has a background as a quant/PM at well-known quant funds, so while the fund is on the fundamental side, it seems like the quants still add value.
