Will likely be writing an LBO case study in the coming months. Was curious, is it an expectation to develop the template from scratch during one of these cases? Or is it reasonable to come in with a template that allows you to plug and play for the most part? You would have to know the model conceptually in order to address it in the investment memo, but curious as to if its prohibited to come in with a template.

Just build your own, most interviewers advice against using templates. you can use some formulas from a template but better build your own from scratch

Paper LBO is literally on paper, don't think it's possible to upload a template to a notepad.
It's a case by case basis, but general rule of thumb is you'll be building a model from scratch. If it's in their office, you likely will not have access to the internet and/or they'll prohibit you from using templates. In some cases they'll provide you with a template or outline as a jumping off point.
You'll get faster at it the more you practice and find process that works best for you. Keep it simple until it's done and then layer in complexity / bells & whistles if time permits -- always better to have a finished product that's simple than a half-way completed model that's nicely formatted and has a bunch of toggles but doesn't provide an answer.
