Random Questions - I got my offer...
Yes its about bonuses - sorry.
I got my offer and when I was sitting in with the MD and bus. manager they mentioned avg first year bonus is 40-50k. Now listen, beggars can't be choosers but its a front office role (FIG analyst) and I was under the impression from all the threads here it should be more. Any chance I am getting low balled on purpose or I am just getting a bad read?
Also I mentioned in another thread there has been no talk about a signing bonus yet. Is it standard or do I need to haggle with HR?
Lastly, I start before I get trained for about a month or so. Any good words of advice?
Thanks!
I'm guessing this isn't bulge bracket?
BoA
ibd?
Is this for investment banking, or something like credit analysis?
ibd.
Haggling? I would not do that if I were you.
It's a bonus not your salary. It also sounds like the standard bonus for an analyst! I'm basing that off UK figures (Bonus / 2)
Those numbers sound way off; I thought BoA paid near top of the street in order to attract bodies. I could be wrong. I would talk to HR about comp though, I've noticed that very senior people don't really have much of an idea of what analysts make on a year to year basis.
I know last year's analysts made street thats why I just wanted to give a bit of a double check. Is it out of place to ask HR what typical bonus ranges are for the spot?
I am currently waiting for all my background info to go through so I have not talked to HR about anything yet. The MD and bus manager never mentioned sign on so thats why I question that.
Dagwood - I say haggle in the sense that if I don't hear word of it to ask. I know these are all cookie cutter packages that's why I found it a bit off.
And just an aside I would be thrilled with a 50k bonus - hell I am still beside myself that I even got the offer, so the experience alone is priceless. But , I just want to make sure I am not getting the short end of the stick - I come from a bit of unconventional past.
Any advice on starting early? I am sure it will be a lot of shadowing, and I plan on going in asking questions on everything. Should I be cognizant of anything else?
from what i know, bonus at BAS has been on par with the other top paying firms.
standard starting package on the street this year is 60k + 10k signon. you might not get the 10k signon since it seems like you did not get the job through fall oncampus recruiting. you should ask for relocation nontheless.
if a guaranteed bonus is not stated on your contract, the 40-50k bonus the MD mentioned means absolutely nothing and i think you can just ignore it. you will get what all your other peers get.
