Real estate agent vs corporate finance
Hey I was not sure where else to put this but I am almost done my bachelor of commerce in finance and was looking for career advise. I am contemplating between becoming a real estate agent or getting into corporate finance. My main goals are to have a good work life balance while also improving my investment portfolio so as to retire by 50 (currently 24). I have always had a passion in real estate but I find the consistency of regular paycheque as well as having more freedom on weekends a definite plus of corporate finance. My retirement goals are to own several small rental properties near a University (about 10) as well as put $1 million into a hedge fund and live off of these investments at a fairly young age. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
living the dream...
Haha, I rather have goals and not achieve them. I worked 100 hr weeks for a couple years right out of hs before going back just want to do what I enjoy, I don't mind long hours just not 80+ hour weeks week in week out
More information please. What school are graduating from?
York u (Toronto) it's ranked 10 here in Canada. My graduation gpa will likely be around 3.3-3.5 mind you I also work full time and am looking forward to getting in a career path I will enjoy
I think you're on the path for REMAX/Coldwell Banker/Century21-level bulge bracket success.
What do you think prospie ?
Was just asking an opinion on career advise, no need to hate. Maybe I should have left the retirement/goals part out
If you have a passion for real estate, do real estate. Can you get a role with a consistent paycheck in real estate? I would want to learn the craft if I want to own. Maybe look for Asset Management roles or acquisition roles. Have you looked into that?
Also, for those who think brokerage at the residential firms is a joke, some of those guys rake it in. It may not be the most highbrow job, but you can rake it in if you are in certain markets.
Thank you I'm going to look into it. Much appreciated.
