Really Bro?
I find it pretty rediculous that my Money & Banking professor had not a clue of what the Hindenburg Omen was or its implications. I could be over-reacting, and not that I think it is the be all end all of technical indicators(or necessarily believe it) but I feel like its something that a Doctor of economics should be aware of. I feel cheated by my college education
Same experience man, I feel like once you're tenured, keeping up with the latest and greatest trends isn't necessarily the highest priority. It's kinda ridiculous to feel cheated by an entire institution because of this single event.
As a student who graduated in economics from a target, professors can have some pretty glaring gaps in their knowledge of finance. In the words of my most ball-busting professor to me "If I had the analytical secret to making lots of money in the market, you think I would be teaching? More importantly, do you think I'd tell YOU?"
The PhD can be described best by saying you know a lot about very little. Most of these guys specialize in very narrow fields of study. I wouldn't judge him based on that one thing.
The only reason he should have heard about is all the news coverage it got in the past month. It doesn't seem like a particularly reliable technical indicator to begin with and your typical economist is probably more interested in fundamental indicators. I wouldn't ask for your tuition refund quite yet.
It doesn't sound like you fully understand what is taught in phd econ courses. Think more math on steroids than popular finance.
