recession --> cohabitation

I was having this conversation with a friend. He's been with his GF for just a few months and is lamenting that they haven't been together longer so they can live together. That way they'd save a ton of money etc. My BF of a few months has made similar comments.

Anyone else who never thought about living with a BF/GF started to consider this largely for financial reasons? I wonder if it will be a trend in the next year or two.

Really not worth it. Find other ways to cut spending, perhaps move in with friends that you aren't dating. Unless you're just dead, dead broke, this is probably a pretty risky move.

moving in with a gf/bf is a great idea for people who are well out of the honeymoon phase. unless both of you are bankers, and living together would simply cut out your travel time to see each other, i think its a not-so-great idea. but, then again, lifes more fun when you make your own mistakes...

Don't move in too early. I moved in with my girlfriend after about a year and a half because we were moving to a different country. I think it was a bit premature. We didn't kill each other, but it took some time to work out our differences. When you are working and want to come home to peace and quiet, you don't really get that when you live with a significant other. There is a lot of managing of expectations as well.
